Funerals are deeply personal moments of reflection, remembrance, and love. At Hartys of Chester, we understand that every life is unique and every farewell deserves care and meaning. One way families are increasingly choosing to honour their loved ones is through funeral photography and videography, capturing moments that might otherwise gently fade with time.
All equipment is discreet, and filming is conducted in a respectful, subtle manner.

When Did Funeral Photography Become the ‘Norm’?
During the Coronavirus pandemic, strict attendance limits were placed on funerals. If you were exposed to the virus, you were required to isolate, meaning close and immediate family members were, heartbreakingly, unable to attend the funeral of someone they loved.
As a result, live streaming and recording funeral services became a widely embraced option. It allowed those isolating at home or unable to travel to still be present, even from afar.
We also began filming the final journey, from leaving the funeral home to arriving at the crematorium or cemetery. Over time, this became socially acceptable for many families, though we fully acknowledge that it may not feel right for everyone, and that is absolutely okay.
Preserving Precious Memories
A funeral can feel overwhelming, and it’s natural for moments to blur in the weeks and years that follow. Funeral photography and videography allow families to preserve the music, the tributes, and the presence of loved ones, creating a lasting keepsake to revisit when they’re ready.
Many families later reflect:
I wish we had recorded the service
Even if the footage is never shared publicly, having a private copy ensures those memories are safe. It also allows future generations to hear the music, words, and stories of their ancestors, creating a quiet but powerful connection across time.

A Personal Tribute
Photographs and videos become a meaningful tribute, celebrating the individuality of the person who has passed away. Whether through gentle candid images, a video montage, or a simple recording of the service, these keepsakes honour a life lived and loved in a deeply personal way.
Supporting Grief and Healing
Revisiting recorded memories can be a comforting part of the grieving process. It offers space to reflect, remember, and focus on the life that was lived, helping families find reassurance in moments that might otherwise fade.
At Hartys of Chester, every funeral is approached with care, respect, and understanding. Photography and videography are simply tools to help families preserve memories, celebrate life, and ensure that stories, achievements, and love can be passed down quietly and gently to future generations.
Drone Filming at Funerals
A drone is a small unmanned aircraft operated remotely. We have carefully used drones to capture aerial photographs and video footage of a loved one’s final journey. When used respectfully and discreetly, drone filming can offer a unique and beautiful perspective.
If you are travelling in a limousine while your loved one arrives by horse and carriage, bespoke hearse, or is led by a piper down the crematorium driveway for example, your view may be limited. Filming allows you to remain present in the moment, knowing you can later watch back the meaningful footage that captures it all.
Because every life deserves to be remembered, and sometimes gently captured, so it can be cherished forever.
