For centuries, traditional burial practices were the norm. Later, cremation became more widely accepted, often followed by the scattering of ashes in meaningful locations.
But what if there were more possibilities – some that push the boundaries of what we consider a final journey?
In future blog posts, I’ll explore a variety of unique memorial options. Today, however, I want to focus on one particularly extraordinary topic.
Ashes to Ashes, Dust to Space?

Now, I appreciate that this is not a choice that the large majority would opt for however, this innovative and symbolic farewell is gaining interest among those who seek a bold and meaningful final adventure.
Since 2017, Aura Flights have been offering memorial flights, carrying ashes into the stratosphere and scattering them above the Earth. They first appeared on Dragon’s Den and rejected an offer from Deborah Meaden, but they have since completed over 250 successful space scatterings.
Each flight can include a personalised memorial video, capturing the final journey and the release of the ashes against the backdrop of space.
