Messages of Condolence

  • To Gill Emma, Colin and family heartfelt condolences for your loss.
As you are aware I only knew Ian for a short while in his later years but he was still very knowledgeable and entertaining when chatting about his favourite subjects whether that be younger days playing rugby, cycling through Epping Forest, his pet cat DD, early years at home in the family guesthouse or later, time spent in National Service and his worklife.
Initially we were able to walk together for a few miles, often on The Wirral, Parkgate was a favourite. Soon though we liked to drive to local garden centres for our tea cake and coffee, more lately we used the wheelchair for our outings.
Ian always made me smile when asking ‘is it my turn to pay?’ I learnt to keep the receipts from one visit to the next, just to prove it was indeed my turn.
He was obviously a well liked and respected man in Chester as often people would recognise him and stop for a chat and even though he couldn’t always put a name to the face Ian would chat away regardless, only afterwards saying ‘I really should know who that is’, but never letting himself get down about not remembering their name.
I am already missing our regular garden centre or coffee shop outings.
    RIP my friend Ian.
    Love to you all, John.
